About Us

Our Story

The prospect of our now six-person little herd began in the summer of 1997 and included brown boots, a cow palace and the strong stench of manure. Let me explain. I was 14 years old. I walked into the cow palace at the Maryland State Fair with my best friend at my side and there he was. I know it’s cliché, but when I saw him – wearing a red, Nebraska trucker hat, white t-shirt smudged with what was probably manure, and his jeans tucked into brown boots with red laces – the rising Loyola High School sophomore nearly stopped me in my tracks. We smiled shyly at each other as we passed, and I whispered in my friend Marielle’s ear, “I’m going to marry him.”

We know what you’re thinking. Come ON. I was 14, Kevin, 15. How could I have possibly known HE was “the one?” Listen, Kevin and I don’t blame you. And back then, it’s possible I didn’t even believe me. But what we do both believe in, is fate. We do believe that God places specific people in your lives at specific times and that day at the state fair, whether either of us knew it or not, I fell in love with my soul mate, my person, and the father of our four beautiful children.

Fast forward twenty-four years, with fourteen of them married and four kiddos under the age of 12, we feel so blessed to own this beautiful farm that we get to share with you. So, whether you are old friends, new friends or just passing through – welcome to Blue Star Farm. And whether you’re looking to purchase our premium beef, host an event, or learn more about or attend an event for our Among the Stars Foundation for Children, we truly love that you’re here.

XOXO

What does the Blue Star symbolize?

There are people who come into your life and change everything. Girlfriends do that. They pick you up when you’re down, laugh with you, cry with you, experience the joy and sometimes, disappointments of life with you. During my time at Maryvale Prepatory School, I met four young women and we became the best of friends – the Fab 5. Naturally, a five-point star was our symbol. Each of us represented a point and a color on our friendship star – Blue, Yellow, Green, Pink and Orange. Our friend Tyler – she represented orange.

Tyler was born with Cystic Fibrosis, but it didn’t stop her from being the fun, funny, smart, kind person that she was. In fact, she was always looking out for others…and she was the one who made sure Kevin and I “happened to cross paths” in high school. At the young age of 22, Tyler passed away following a lung transplant. I miss her Every. Single. Day. She was compassionate, strong and loyal.

When we purchased our farm in 2015, Kevin surprised me by honoring me and the Fab Five friendship by naming it Blue Star Farm. Blue represents hope, good health, inspiration, serenity and wisdom. All characteristics of our little farm, the people who live here, visit here and experience life here. It makes it even more fitting that the Blue Star hangs big and strong on our barn – and that our beautiful Tyler is looking over us – among the stars that shine above Blue Star Farm.
